While Spain was in the United States winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, BB Creative Consultancy was at our Madrid location taking in the energy and watching people come together around an experience that was so much bigger than the game itself.
The World Cup makes the power of experience pretty hard to miss. For a few weeks, cities, neighborhoods, plazas, restaurants and homes become gathering places where strangers, communities and cultures come together around something they care about. The game may be the catalyst, but the experience around it creates the memories, the stories and the connections that stay with us.
That same idea continues to show up in some interesting ways across Madridβs retail experience landscape.
WOW Concept and X-Madrid are two destinations we continue to watch because neither is relying on being new to create relevance. Both continue to evolve their environments and experiences, finding new ways to give people reasons to engage, explore, participate and connect.
WOW Concept continues to challenge the traditional idea of what a retail destination can be by creating a multi-floor, multi-brand environment where discovery is really part of the experience. Fashion, sneakers, beauty, home, travel and other categories come together with digital and physical experiences, giving brands different ways to be discovered and giving visitors a reason to explore beyond simply finding a product.
X-Madrid takes a very different approach, and that is part of what makes it so interesting. Here, retail shares the stage with sport, urban culture, entertainment, dining and activities that invite people to actually do somethingβclimb, surf, bowl, dive, work out, see a movie, grab something to eat or simply hang out. Shopping is part of the experience, but it certainly is not the whole experience.
Two very different experiences, but there is a common thread running through both. They are creating places where something can happen, whether that is a discovery, a conversation, a shared experience or simply a reason to spend more time with others.
This is something we continue to see all around the world, with the World Cup simply being a great example of how an experience can bring people together around something they are passionate about and, in the process, create something even more powerful: connection, memories, relevance and recall.
Here at BB Creative Consultancy, this is where the interesting work continues to be found. We are constantly looking at the nuances of how brands, retailers and destinations create those moments of connection, not simply what they put into a space, but what they make possible because of it.
Neither WOW Concept nor X-Madrid are new, and that may be one of the most interesting parts of the story! In a world obsessed with what is next, there is something to be said for creating an experience that continues to evolve, stays relevant and gives people a reason to return.
Madrid continues to give us plenty to see, think about and bring into the work we do with brands around the world.
Because whether it is a football match, a retail destination or something we create together with a brand, the most memorable experiences have one thing in commonβthey give us a reason to show up, connect and remember.
